Hi at all,
i have two MSS (one HP EX470 4x1TB and one HPEX470 3x1TB) and i would like to know if it's possible (i believe not possible) to see in the storage pool (same storage pool for both MSS) all the HD (in detail 7x1TB).

Thanks in advance.

Niccolo

No. It is not possible for two separate WHS machines to share a combined storage pool.

Well, you could simplify your configuration and avoid any problems by giving it to me.... (Sorry, I could NOT resist that! )

Some folks use one unit strictly for backups and the other for Shared Folders. Some turn off duplication on one and use a synchronization tool to sync the Shared Folders nightly between the units. Some folks put half their users backups on one and half on the other, sometimes with the sync between the Shared Folders. Some use one as a development platform and the other for production (as I would if you gave me your "extra" ). One person I talked to switches on alternate weeks, taking the other unit off-site. (May be the ONLY person more paranoid about backups than me!)

It's not too hard to configure if you have fewer than 10 clients. But with more than 10 you need a more rigid approach. Either way, the pain is running the Discovery.exe to change servers.

Hi JBick,
i'm thinking to gift to someone the second MSS

I think that the better solution to enhance my storage is to buy a sort of esata multiplier (like SansRaid).

In the long run that may be the best approach... Good luck!

By the way, I forgot to mention earlier: WELCOME to the World of WHS/MSS! Good to have you aboard!

Hi JBick
i think that Sansraid is the better solution.
Next step is to understand if it's possible to upgrade my EX475 (i have 2GB RAM) to 2.5 software (only for EX48xx).

Bye

I have an EX475 (with 2GB and an LE1640).

I have not done the upgrade, but I plan to. Too many other things on the plate right now so I will probably wait for the guys to get the Add-In working and then take the plunge. I don't really stream much video so there is not a lot of motivation.

But these guys are good and they do have it basically working!
