Another option for you is Jalbum http://jalbum.net/ I used it to make a photo share for my nieces wedding http://coopsabode.homeserver.com/Jamie_Otto/... just click on the flowers. It also has a ton of skins you play with.

Coop,

Thank you for sharing part of your site with me. It is very helpful to actually see how the thing works. I really like your front page too. You guys have really helped me get the answers I was looking for. You also pointed our the things i don't know.

I'm doing some searches now to understand what it takes to use multiple web addresses on the same server. For example, crw.homeserver.com/vballpics for volleyball families and crw.homeserve.com/homebiz for my wifes few pages for her consulting business and crw.homeserver.com/thekids for family albums.

I'm ready to buy and now.

Thank you all... you've all been very kind and helpful.

the whiist add in is exactly what you want.

it takes care of the differnet page names for you
name.homeserver.com/wifesbus
name.homesever.com/soccer photoes

It allows you to set up as many webpages as you want all with different rights as you need (totally wide open. Or only open to people with the username(s) and pwd(s) you assign.)

it even makes basic web pages for photo's without anything more

You could in literally 3 minutes make a website yourpickedname.homeserver.com/soccer photos. And hand out that address- anyone with that obscure address could look at the photos.

see the tutorial here:
http://www.andrewgrant.org/2007/06/09/h ... nutes.html

It's CRAZY simple. Really

for REALLY basic web pages you can literally just use MS word and save as html with the name index.htm and put it in the folder whiist creates for you for that site. (But if you want to really use it to sell I'd try for a more professional approach.)

here's the article about asp.net
not sure if you need to even get that far.
But now that it was pointed out I plan to look myslef.

Thank you Michael,

I've been reading about Whiist and how easy it looks and I think that is going to be perfect. I find I can learn anything from finding the right forum and the right people. Whiist looks perfect as it falls right in line with KISS... keep it simple stupid. I'm beginning to read about the asp stuff too.

Coop... if you're still checking in... how did you make the front page for your jamie and otto site?

Craig,

I'll try and help you out here but I'm by no means a pro at this, I think I was sitting in your shoes 6 months ago...lol I have had to delete 1 or 2 sites so trial & error will come your way. When you do get it working the way you want don't forget to back up things.

First off I created the web site with whiist,

The flowers and header where done in Photoshop. For the flowers I cut out what I didn't want to see and making the back ground black, then placing the files into a sub folder within the folder made by whiist. Looks something like this "servername/users/coop/jamieotto/photos".

I then used NVU http://net2.com/nvu/ to open the created whiist site, cleaned a few things up, inserted the photo & header and added the black back ground, changed the font color (the default is black).

Then I created the photo album with Jalbum on my PC and then move the resulting folder and all its contents into the same photo file on the server. Within the created Jalbum folder you'll see a html file called "index" that I linked to the flower again in NVU. Anything you add in NVU can be linked to a html file on your server or any other website.

I've found the NVU program to be excellent, with good support on their forums & some videos. Plus the best part, its free :D If you've used any photo editor like Photoshop or MS Word you will pick up how to use NVU in no time even though I've only skimmed the surface with what I've done.

Thanks Coop,

I'm reading through all of the links but I'm getting ahead of myself now. I don't even have the mss yet. I was happy to get an hour to mow the yard today.

Weekend is over and it feels like it just got started.

Thank you everyone for your help and for taking the time to direct me to some great info. I'm sure I'll be back after I get the MSS and get it up and running. I'm actually anxious to get my kid's dvd's on there so i can play them through the xbox or ps3. we have stacks of them and trying to find the right one is a pain sometimes.

thanks again and look forward to learning a lot more.

Think your site is cool also, but I really enjoyed the movie section. I have two duffel bags of DVDs just sitting around and what I saw on your site is exactly what I want to do. Great job.

thnx.

Thnx.

sorry about the late reply guys but the movie page is only an example of what I have installed on my Popcornhour and it only works on it... you need Movie Collector & My Lil Movie JukeBox Maker! from Allen's site http://www.treasure-cove.net/moviejukebox.htm
