At our home, we have two seperate clusters of computers and media players. I have home office on the first floor where I work on a Windows laptop and my wife uses her MacBook Pro. We also use a wireless Klipsch LightSpeakers to stream music to the livingroom and kitchen.

On the second floor we have the AV components in the family room. Here is a snapshot of my MediaSmartServer tucked away with a custom HTPC and AV Receiver in my family room :mss: Thanks to Yakuza, I was able to build a DIY screen for the projector.

If anyone is interested, here is the link to my projector screen build at the AVSForum.

What media cabinet are you using, that looks awfully similar to the Thomasville Media Cabinet I have in my bedroom (picture in my writeup here - http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2011/01 ... take-deux/)

LOL! it does look similar. I dont remember what it is called, we picked it up at Costco. I like the ability to change the glass panel with speaker fabric panels as well. Unfortunately, I cant use the speaker panels any more. Three years ago I got rid of bookshelf speakers and upgraded to floor standing speakers. Love the results with the projector screen :beerme:

Your article inspires me to move to the second round of wiring for me - I need to open the walls and run speaker wires through the ceiling and run CAT6. :chicken:

Hi Will,

In fact, that's the only TV in our house. :) I built the 92" screen out of a product called Do-Able, it's documented completely on AVSforum. My next major purchase will likely be a 720p (or better) projector to replace the Infocus 4805 I currently have.

Maybe we need to start a gamertag thread. :)

Alex

I built a 100" screen a week ago following the instructions on your post about Do-Able. That has been the best addition to my home theater in years! I am so glad I did not chicken out and buy a 60" LED TV this time. Thank you!

Awesome, so glad you like it! I built it several years ago and have since upgraded to a 720p projector a few years ago, it's still running great, in fact I just finished a Halo Reach round with some buddies in Seattle. 8) The Do-Able product is nice and cheap and does a good job especially if you've got reasonable light control. I also did flat black trim though I painted mine myself.

You should get the Mediasonic 8 bay when they come out, so you can keep adding more hard drives

WHS has a limitation of 32 HDDs, so adding an additional 8 bay won't help Aaron.

8 BAY ?!?!?!!

That would have been nice. But I'm at my limit now. I can only hit 31 drives, My WHS won't take 32. I have no idea if that is because of the two partitions in the OS drive or something else. It will see the 32nd drive but not for the storage pool. So 56TB with 31 drives is what I'm stuck at. :D

I just rebuilt my WHS2011 with a re-claimed Intel SC5650 chassis and Intel S3420GP board, with 6 expandable hot-swap bay. Everything except the drives is free to me. Some stock photos:

We purchased our HPEX495 new many years ago. The OS is Oracle Linux 6.3. I use it for our Veeam Backup and Replication Repository.

The little HPEX495 media server is acting as repository for all the backups of the VMs and physical machines and laptops on the network.

I ran into my two old HP MediaSmart servers last month when I was cleaning out a closet. I was thinking about repurposing them for another unRAID setup or two.
I think the older one was an EX470 and then I had replaced it with the EX490. And I never got around to selling either one.
