Nice, looks like a better layout to me.

Thought I would post up mine. Sorry for the poor quality, snapped them real fast the other day. The blue reflection is my roommate's salt water tank.

the unit is actually ventilated under each shelf and in the rear, so far it seems pretty good

Thanks for sharing!!! When you say ventilated are you saying that the cabinet has areas to allow for airflow, or you have fans installed as well?

I don't have fans in the unit as of now. I might consider that after some usage and I see exactly how hot it gets in there, probably going to buy a little digital thermometer to monitor the temperature for a month.

I have added 2 USB fans to pull cool air in through the bottom( can barley see ) and push the warm air out the top holes in the back.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835106140
Data Vault runs 39c and the Ex470 runs about 41c to 43c
They are plugged into the HP AQ731UT Essential USB 2.0 Port Replicator that is sitting on the top.

The HP External DVD burner is also connected through the port replicator.

Now to find an external Blu Ray drive. None seem to suit my fancy, except this one that HP will only sell with the purchase of a notebook.

Why would HP not be willing to sell this Blu Ray as an accessory?

@cbick - you have to call the parts department, can't order it through their online option.
the part number for the drive is 506779-001
1.800.227.8164

Just get a BD rom drive and put it in a USB enclosure. I have two of them connected to my MSS in Vantec enclosures and will be adding a third one soon.

Plus that BD rom drive is supposedly extremely slow. If you plan on ripping any BDs it will take a very long time with that HP BD rom drive. If the specs that came up at the HP site are correct. It only shows reading at 1X rates instead of the normal 4x to 4.8x I get max with my LiteOn and LG BD Rom drives on commercial BDs.

I have the same unit. This is the best piece of A/V furniture that I've ever owned. I've had mine over 2yrs now and venilation hasn't been a problem yet. The PS3 (Silver edition) has a dedicated fan attached to it, however.

Here's my setup. It resides in a cool, venilated, enclosed room in my basement.

Here's some of what you see:
MSS EX475
SansDigital Enclosure
Buffalo LinkStation Mini 1TB (not part of WHS, but will soon backup selected shares)
2 APC UPS/Battery Backup unit (There is a third one not shown that my home automation/security stuff is plugged into)
HP 24-port Gigabit Switch, feeding my patch panel + a bunch of other stuff (whole house is CAT6)

Nice pics, I agree having the server in the cool basement is a good thing.

byronomo that is good to hear about the quality and the ventilation. I had an old cooling pad for a laptop that I just threw in the cubby just to move the air around.

I will probably have to do some reorganization soon of my components what with me getting/building an htpc and eventually a logitech googletv set-top box. I might have to move the router, switch, and modem to the other side, or just move the UPS and turn it sideways in order to for everything to fit better.

I am also jealous of your Control4, I used to help do some C4 set-ups for a high-end installer in Atlanta. I want to get a set-up but it is not worth it right now living in an apt building.

I generally like the Control4 system and, coincidentally, am in Atlanta. I just wish there was a better way to integrate it with MediaCenter/Windows Home Server.

It would be great to have a menu item w/in Media Center to view your cameras/adjust lighting or thermostats, etc.
