First and foremost, I understand that WHS v1 is old and outdated. I know that iTunes may or may not install properly on WHS server as iTunes is a desktop type of software. I wanted to install iTunes on a ex490 running WHS. The purpose is to have a centralized place to store the iTunes library and related stuff such as movies, music, etc... If possible, I would like to share the library across the network to other Macs and keep the version on the server updated. I will not be connecting any devices to the server or backing up an devices directly to the server. I have heard of iHomeserver but I am not familar with this software. Perhaps, iHomeserver will do what I am looking to accomplish.

I think I have idea on how to do this. I would create a folder on the server and share it. Next, I would copy the iTunes.itl file to that folder. On the Macs, I would connect to that folder and open the library. The only thing I am not sure about is how to keep the server copy updated. I want the server to hold the most recent copy of the Library.

I am not sure which iTunes version I can install on WHS. I would prefer to use the most recent version but I don't need all of the components.

Thanks.

well the stock itunes server is outdated and will not support the new devices.
I don't use it except for backups and managing apps.
But if it were me.
In the console I would disable the stock server version first.
Create a folder to install in and set it to share with whoever.
Then turn on duplication so it makes a backup.
Then install itunes using a custom install and make sure it is all installed in that same shared folder.
Maybe it will work.

as far as updates who knows.
