I have an ex490 on which I just installed OS8.1. I still have WHS and some data files on a separate hard drive and wondering if there is a way I can put that drive in a bay other than bottom and access what's on it? I've put the drive into bay 2 and not seeing anything in network. Was hoping maybe it would link to the OS8.1 drive. Is there a way to do that other than using Windows storage pool option (which requires third disk for the OS).

Thanks.

If the extra drive was from a WHS pooled, the data is there, you just need to set the drive to show hidden files and folders.
The data will be in a sub folder called DE I believe.
I use a usb to sata dock and another pc to get data off pooled drives.
Once you can see the data, you will most likely want to more/copy it to another drive, then when you have moved all the data you can format that drive and add it to the server.

Windows storage pool is different then the DE whs v1 pool, so you will have to grab it manually.

You might be able to plug that drive into the server and look it up in drive manager, set it to unhide files and folders and you could see the data on it in the server, but I would still copy it to another drive (maybe your os drive is big enough).

There is another pooling software option I use on my win2012E box called satblebit drive pool. Works great with 1/2/3/4/5/6 drives. You tell it how many copies of each file you want to keep and it will spread them across all the drives.
Well worth the price.

Hope this helps....
Good Luck

Thanks Gardian! Maybe I didn't need to but I swapped the drive into my desktop, showed hidden files and found the DE folder with all my old files.

So just to be sure, after backing up files, I can format this drive (NTSF or FAT?) and then put it back in server and it will show up as an additional hard drive?

Thanks
