Currently, I have my MediaSmart server sitting on my desktop. I was thinking of moving it to a more secure location in case of a break in. Instead of running cable through the house, is there anyway of adding a wireless adapter to the server?

Thanks,
Chuck

You should be able to add a USB wireless adapter, yes. If you're running WHS v1, you'll need to ensure the adapter has XP-compatible device drivers. The kernel for WHS v1 is based off the XP platform so an XP-compatible driver should work.

Thanks Matt! Yes, I am running WHS V1. Since the server does not have a CD drive, how do I go about getting the drivers for the wireless adapter onto the server?

You would use remote desktop connection from your connected pc.

I have wireless on my DIYwin2012E server, just because the motherboard had it on it and I could. It was a little slow, but I was just testing then.
Once you got all the backups done, and if you don't stream movies alot, it should work pretty good.
Goodluck.
P.S. You can download the drivers once your remoted in or I have a couple of usb dvd-rw that come in handy for stuff like this.
Enjoy!

Yes, if you get an older usb to wifi that has XP drivers.
It will work. It will be slower, but it can work.
Good luck

P.S. Switching over will be a little tricky, you will need to verify the wifi works and can connect, then power the server down and unplug the wire and let it boot and see if you can see it online, it may take a little longer then normal.
You may even need to disable the wired nic and then reboot, but this could cause a lose of connectivity, so proceed with caution.
If the wired nic is still on, al least you could syill use it if needed.

Goodluck
