Does the WHS version 1 client run properly on Windows 8 and is it fully compatible with the original version (ver 1) of Windows Home Server?

Thanks

I have one PC running W8 Pro and no issues with WHSv1, everything works as expected including PC backups

Great I was about to look up this question coming weekend. So all reasons to not give Win8 a try have vaporized for me.

Artoisguy, did you get an answer elsewhere or figure out the remote access issue? I've read a couple of articles saying this was more difficult to accomplish with Windows 8, so I'm curious to know if you or someone else has figured this out. Thanks.

Hi

No I gave up in the end, no one could answer this question on any of the forums. I ended up using a Devolo Dlan home plug adapters to hard wire it in. Don't know why I didn't do this in the first place, it is running like lightening now.

If you find the answer please do post it!

in an interesting twist ..

I just bought a Dell xps10 tablet running Windows (8) RT (which is a fantastic little machine for £250!) and this hooked straight into my wireless network and found the shared drives on the server automatically ...

So there must be something different between the setting on full fat W8 vs W8RT

unless Microsoft have cured the issue now .. I have stuck with netplugs as they solve my problem and are way quicker than wireless anyway ...

I'm not sure I understand what your asking. Do you mean you are trying to access the server from outside your network with like a wireless laptop?
or
Do you mean you can not connect to your server via remote desktop with a wireless laptop inside your network?
Help me out.....

Hi

just from within my network. If I am outside network it works fine.

Have a look at my other posts. It appears to be a Microsoft issue

Cheers

Try using the actual IP Number of the server to make the connection rather then the name of the server and see if that makes a difference.

Lets just say I have experienced this with my WIN8 Clients but the way I resolved it was dealing with the actual Router itself. Its a long story I will not bore you with because its a very long story which started when I wanted to use a router with more port forwarding entries then the router I have been using now since 2008 and I tried several with all sorts of interesting results and one was very similar to what you described with certain routers I tried. Thing is I ended back where I started.
