So I have an HP MS server, that I've added 4 drives to with a bunch of data on it. Due to various circumstances, this rig is now essentially offline and at a point, where I just want to recover the data from the individual disks, format them, and then move them into a RAID enclosure.

Has anybody done this before? Anything I need to be aware of, or is this simply a matter of plugging each disk into my desktop, and then copying the data over to a backup drive? (since the disks were part of the WHS RAID setup?)

Hi mahldcat welcome to the forums!

If you connect your drives to another computer you will need to set the computer to be able to view hidden files and folder. All Storage Pool Drives and the Partition on your system drive are named DATA. All the files are stored in the hidden folder DE for which you can copy the files to a location of your choice.

I would recommend that you keep your files in a safe location as a backup in addition to copying them to the RAID Enclosure you have mentioned. This way if your RAID Array should fail you will still have a copy of your files to fall back on.

Heh...tell me about it....I was trying to do a cloud based backup of this rig onto my Azure account, but it was just too much data to do at once...

That being said, then I won't have to worry about having to deal with some sort of non recognized file system, or having the data interleaved from one drive to another? e.g. drive 2 has the first half of file a, and drive 3 has the other half?
