Severe flooding in Thailand has shuttered many/most of the hard drive factories there, leading to a global shortage. Here's a NY Times article that speaks to this issue: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/07/busin ... ods07.html

The picture in the article is a WD factory surrounded by floodwaters.

All the more reason we need to bring jobs back to the US and make parts here in the good ol' USA!!!

We don't have floods here?

Shoot it seems like record floods are occurring all over the world this year in almost every country. We had one in Northern Virginia earlier this year that they said was a 1000 year event. It rained around 8 inches or more in just a short time. It was crazy. No one had ever seen anything like it around here.

Prices have gone up a lot but deals can still be had. Costo still has cheap external drives and I believe has a 2TB for $69 on black friday. Just pop the drive out of the case and use it as an internal if you need to.
