I was wondering if HP and Microsoft are still supplying updates for whs v1?
I am going to attempt (2) x-510 resets this weekend.
I will post back with what I see.
Fingers crossed, I figure I better do it now while they still may be working.

But I have heard of rumors of cloning software that will copy the disk ID so a clone image would work without all the voodoo that had to happen in the past, I just don't know what cloning software it is.
Shout out if anybody knows any good info.

I feel these servers are coming to an end with whs v1.

Good Luck all....

Followup:
I took a stock X-510, put a 2tb red in the bottom OS bay, direct connected it to my XP laptop, booted it into safe mode with networking after disabling the wireless nic.

Fired up the recovery software that has been copied to the desktop of the laptop and followed the instructions.
Powered on the server, waited for the red/blue/red/blue/red/blue (3 times) and pressed and released the tiny reset button on the front. I must not have got it clicked good so quickly pressed and released again and the lights changed whiter.
Clicked OK in the software and away we went, loaded in about 45 min. So pretty much as I remembered from a few years ago.
Server rebooted and then it wanted the software (which is also copied to the desktop). That took maybe 20 mins, the server rebooted and came back "breathing" I shut it down and got it connected to the network and rebooted my laptop into normal mode with wireless nic.
I think finishing the install on wireless made it take longer, it seemed like about an hour and then it was done.

Then the part I was nervous about, HP updates, it grabbed update 3.01 and started downloading it and installed, reboot, then I clicked on check for HP updates and it found 3.02 and download and installed, reboot and same on update 3.03.
So as of 12-2017 HP is still pushing updates. :-) Thank you HP.

Then off to the windows updates, got 1, then 2, then I lost my notes, but seemed like I got a couple more then no more windows updates via the connector. So I remoted in and checked for MS updates and got maybe 8 +/- more and installed Smart and all was done.
All total took about 3 hours +/-.

Just a fyi for those thinking about a fresh load. The only thing I wish I could do is be able to change the Admin password without a recovery, but at least it has a nice clean fresh load on it.

P.S. I checked the other server and noticed it has a 2tb red in the OS bay and another in the 3rd bay, so fired it up and remembered I had reloaded it last year for my daughter, so it was good to go.
I did some synctoy and updated some of the files from the main server and they both will be going back in the box.

Happy holidays to everyone, to you and yours.
Enjoy and take care.

So,
If I understand correctly. You got updates from both HP and Microsoft all the way to power pack 3?
WOW! Good news.
Oh wait maybe it is the ex490 only that has power pack 3?

Yes, The x-510 also gets PP1 / PP2 / PP3 from HP.
Somebody out there must know a way of changing the admin password with a script or bat file. I can't believe it can't be done, I'm just not smart enough to figure it out.

Happy Holidays all.
