Quick Update To 10Muse

About a month ago I put together a guide highlighting the 10Muse App, which can be used to turn your iPad into a Home Theater jukebox for playback on your Dune or PCH media player. Last week an update was pushed through which brought two important features that I thought it would be worth briefly mentioning.

1) Fully Editable TV Shows: Freely edit TV-Shows Info and create custom episodes or even complete shows. ‘Lock’ TV-Shows or single episodes, so they are excluded from the update procedure.

2) Dune Index: ‘Export to Dune’ will create a stand-alone Dune jukebox, for the times an iPad might not be available. With support for trailers and multidisc titles. Currently this is only functional for movies, TV show support will be added.

This is probably one of the most requested features from current Dune owners, and allowing for a Dune index (so you can actually view the 10Muse created Jukebox directly on the TV via the Dune) should hopefully open up 10Muse to an additional customer base.

In order to use the Dune Index you must designate a location for where your Dune will access the 10Muse jukebox. Most users will use either a network folder (such as myself) or storage attached to the Dune (such as an internal drive). In the 10Muse Library Manager simply add the path where you want the jukebox stored and in the dropdown choose the “Dune Index” option.

Now when you go to export your 10Muse jukebox there should be an additional option to choose exporting to the Dune.

When you choose to update to the Dune, if everything is set up correctly, you will see a notification message.

Now head over to the Dune, navigate to the location where the 10Muse jukebox stored, and add to favorites.

When you launch the 10Muse index you will be greeted by 5 icons (Alphabetically, Production Year, Added to Server, Filter by Genre, and Filter by Letter).

Here is a view of the movie wall you will see to choose a movie.

Once you choose a movie, here is the movie detail page.

Update:

- Undocumented 10Muse Dune Index function: To change the default background image just add an image named ‘DuneIndexBackground.jpg’ inside the ‘\UserData\’ folder. Recommended resolution is 1920×1080, if not, the image will be resized to that.

Hey Damian,
How did u setup icons for the items in your favorite section. I have my _Zappiti folder added as a favorite. But all I see is a “star” icon. Is there a way to customize that icon

Actually, don’t worry. After learning that telnet access to a linux host is available, i am excited. I should be able to figure this out

Good stuff. Sorry for responding so late, little behind with my emails :(

Damian,

How does 10muse compare with Zappiti?

Damian October 24, 2012 at 5:50 am

Comparable ;)

Now that 10muse has a Dune index I would say they are more on equal footing now (10muse just needs to add TV shows to their Dune Index). There are some areas where Zappiti works better then 10muse (both on the PC and on the iPad) and other areas where 10Muse works better.

So, let say that 10muse add the TV Shows to the Dune Index. Thereafter, if you had to choose one what would it be?

Hmmm… don’t know if I would have a clear cut winner. If I was relying purely on using the iPad the update process it perfect with 10Muse. There are some areas with 10muse that aren’t as easy to maintain as Zappiti though (such as automatic scanning which Zappiti does as soon as you open). If 10muse can add some of these features then it would be a lot easier to maintain

I am hoping 10muse does an index for PCH as well. Now, I would definitely use 10muse as my only jukebox ;).

Damian October 24, 2012 at 6:38 am

Not sure. I would say that between PCH and Dune PCH is low on the list. Plus, on the PCH the index could not be static HTML based

I understand what you are saying. I’m trying to decide if I should sell my PCH-A210 and get Dune TV series for my bedroom. I am getting kind of tire of updating / maintain two different jukeboxes. Specially since I can’t update YAMJ from the r3166 because YAYMAN isn’t compatible with the newer versions.
