Microsoft to limit free SkyDrive to 7GB

I use Microsoft SkyDrive as an extra storage area to compliment my home server. This has always been an excellent, free option and with 25GB it was a no brainer in my choice of Cloud Storage.

After the long holiday weekend we had in the UK, I accumulated a large number of pictures and wanted to sync them back to Skydrive. On logging in this morning, I saw that they were reducing the free storage to 7GB but for a limited time they were allowing existing users to upgrade to 25GB for free.

The upgrade is relatively simple.

Logon to your Skydrive account at skydrive.live.com using your Windows Live ID.

Go to the bottom left of your account page and click ” Manage storage.” You’ll see a listing of storage plans. Next to “SkyDrive Free” you should see a button that says “Free Upgrade!”
