Nearly 2 months ago the PCH A300 was announced, the successor to the 200 series of PCH players. Since then there seems to have been questions every day on when the C-300 would be released. Well, it looks like Syabas has officially announced the release of the C-300. You can see the full announcement here. It will be priced at USD 349, a USD 50 premium over the C-200. As always be on the lookout for my A-300 review in the coming days. I haven’t decided yet if it is work picking up the C-300, but if I do you can expect a full review as well.

Hello Damian,
Shouldn’t the first line of th article read, ‘Nearly 2 months ago the PCH A300 was announced,’
But that is what it says
J/K, thanks for picking up, I have fixed (speed blogging while trying to attend to a sick kid!!!)
If you actually have get an A-300 or C-300, I’d really like to know about their picture and music playback “smarts”. I’ve read on the NMT forum that the earlier ones won’t continue to the next folder after playing through one.
Say for music you have MP3s in a master folder \PinkFloyd, with each album in a separate folder below that such as
\PinkFloyd-1
\PinkFloyd-2
etc
Now if you start playing in \PinkFLoyd-1, when it has done all the songs there it will stop. It won’t go on to \PinkFloyd-2, even though both these folders are at the same “level”.
The same for picture slideshows. Basically, to get non-stop playing of music or pictures, you have to put everything !!! in one folder which I think sucks.
Are the -300′s better for this?
To be honest I have never used the PCH for music or Photo playback. I will see what I can dig up
Can you check for forced PGS subtitles support in mkv while playing lossless audio…
Also check the max “level” it will play for mkv…I have a few level 5 mkv
Forced PGS subtitles with lossless audio works, although there is a bug with HD Audio that is occurring in some occasions (tests done on the A300)
I think I tested with a L5.1 mkv and it played back. Still working on my A300 review so plugging along with the test samples.
Hm, think I will still wait for Xtreamer Prodigy…
BTW, you mention “worth picking up”, don’t you know of any websites that offer 30 day full money back? Just buy one, review it, and return. =)
From what I have read the Xtreamer Prodigy is very buggy, and the usual missing features that were promised before launch
Amazon offers the PCH 200 series, so I expect eventually the 300 will get there as well
I wonder that Popcorn Hour C-300 support “RMVB” file
Thanks!
