Replacing the CPU is a common upgrade for those that want to increase the performance of their MediaSmart Server, however there is sometimes risk involved with the upgrade and some users have “bricked” their server in the process. Christian Johnson of Maplegrove Partners has been in touch to let us know that he has published a guide on how to recover your MediaSmart Server EX480/EX485 in the event of a bad BIOS flash.

You can read the guide here, and see our forum topics on how to upgrade the CPU in your MediaSmart Server if you’ve not yet done so.

Greetings – how do I get my WD 3TB drive to be seen on my MediaSmart ex490? I can only see 746.51GB. Please respond directly to this email. Thanks for any insight you provide.

Alex, did you read further into this posting, that suggested the Intel plug-in might work? I was under the impression that WHS would not allow you to add such programs into it, but I also see some people installing other plug-ins.

Mathelo, thanks for this.
