Got Junk?

We all know that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure but that same junk can be cash in your pocket. I am sure you have heard that Best Buy is offering the option to trade-in your old electronics for cash, in this case gift cards to use at any Best Buy store. Newegg has implemented the same program and they will contribute $1 to the EarthEra Trust. Here is how the program works.

Both companies provide you with an estimate of how much your electronics are worth based on your response to some simple questions and if you decide to trade them in Newegg will provide the necessary packing for you to ship them for free. Shortly after they receive them they will send you a gift card. Best Buy works the same way but they will only provide you with a prepaid shipping label not the packing.

I think this is a great program that will benefit a lot of us, and also the environment. I have found myself disposing of things in the garbage because I had no use for them but now I can get something out of it.

Do you have old electronic taking up space in you basement or garage? What do you with them? Now that you know about these programs will you take advantage of them?

Hello, my name is Giesis Aguila, and I love electronics. I have been using computers for as long as I can remember. I have built them, fixed them, and burned them. My life was changed in 2010 when I purchased my HP MediaSmart Server EX495. My wife hated computers and now she can't live without the server (and me of course).

If the items are not too old I try to sell them on Craigslist, maybe Ebay, otherwise I’ve found people locally that will pick up boxes of old electronics and supposedly they recycle them though you never know for sure.

I used to sell things on Craigslist but for safety reasons I stopped. Ebay its a good idea if you can sell it.

Old items I take to Best Buy. They have an electronics recycling program and they take care of making sure that the items are properly disposed of and recycled.

I often will sell or just give away the items I have. Some of the older components I have come in handy to help others resolve issues. As for recycling there exists a non-profit organization in the Atlanta area that collects old electronics and sells them to recycling centers to help fund their programs. I believe its Habitate. They also will sell working items when they can.

Getting something for older items you no longer have use for is cool and these days every penny helps. My thoughts are basically when I give things away its generally to those who otherwise could not afford to purchase either the items or upgrade what they have. In this case I would rather give the items away then to collect funds because the reward in helping others is far greater then collecting additional money not that I am wealthy but for me its a better thing to do.
