Rumors about New Vail & Aurora Betas Surface on ZDNet

Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet seems to be the first with many Microsoft rumors, including several Windows Home Server items. On January 27, 2010 she posted about the Windows Home Server “Vail” leak, and now today she has a blog post saying that we can expect updated betas of Vail and Aurora sometime next week. By now we all know about Vail and many of us are currently testing it out and so it’s probably time for an updated beta of Vail to be released.

The updated beta release for Vail is not what really caught my eye but the mention of Aurora did as it’s something we’ve not heard about before.  In her blog post she mentions that Aurora is similar to Vail but targeted towards the Small Business Server market with some added functions.  Both Vail and Aurora are based on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Read her blog post for the full details, and post in the comments with your thoughts on what might be included in an updated beta of Vail.

I think there has been a clarification since this announcement on Monday regarding Aurora and SBS. Aurora beta is coming in August I believe. And in response to Mary Jo Foley’s questions, Microsoft has said the next update to Vail will be the Release Candidate..and not another beta.
