Terry Walsh over at WeGotServed received an announcement from HP stating that the EX490 will be available October 15th for £429. He indicates that the EX495 will not be available for reasons unknown, which I’m sure will upset many of you that were looking forward to upgrading your EX470 or EX475 to the new dual-core Home Server. This may be mitigated slightly for the true enthusiast who is willing to shell out a bit more cash for the impending release of the X510 Data Vault which is identical to the EX495.
Head on over to WeGotServed to read the full announcement, then let us know how this news strikes you and if you plan to purchase the EX490 or the Data Vault.

I had planned on buying an EX495 when it came on the UK market. If HP are not, now, going to release it then I’ll have to rethink and maybe get something else. I’d like the extra horsepower in this model but struggle to see why I should pay extra for the “business” (X510) product though, which amounts to nothing more than a plain cardboard box instead of the consumer braded box. Come on HP, get with the programme!
Alex, any clue if and when the new Servers are coming to Germany?
Thanks!
Having had major problems sourcing the EX490, I have found that you can buy the X510 for only £20 more. Since the X510 has the full spec processor found on the non-UK available EX495, I think this is well worth the money.
I have now taken delivery of an X510 1Tb for £495 inc vat at my local computer shop. Not yet had time to unbox and connect it up though.
Congrats, let us know how it’s working for you once you get it set up!
£443 delivered next day for me – arriving tomorrow – now the question, do I install the service pack ?
I’d recommend yes, there are numerous fixes to backup issues, remote access issues, and several features that you’ll want to have. Your server will attempt to update itself during setup.
