2ndBDay

July 7th 2007 is the day I first registered the MediaSmartServer.net domain name, and on July 31st the forums went live. Things started incredibly slow, as can be expected when you’re running an enthusiast site for a product that didn’t yet exist, and I was the only person posting for about the first 3 months. Since then, the site has grown in many ways. We’ve got over 3100 registered forum members, a Wiki full of interesting and informative articles, I’ve published three Add-Ins and helped Nigel with two more, we’ve received two MVP awards, migrated to more powerful hosting to support the demand on the site, and seen three generations of MediaSmart Server released by HP.

A birthday is not only the time to look back at what we have accomplished, it is also the time to look forward at what is yet to come. Both Nigel and I have some new Add-Ins in various stages of development, I’m working on some updates and enhancements to the site, I’m working with some new writers to produce articles and tutorials with the goal of helping people make better use of their home servers, and there are other activities that will need to stay on the back burner for now.

Thank you to all the members of this site for making it the great place it is, and to those of you that “lurk” without participating (yes, I see you in the website statistics! :D ), know that you’re invited to join the forums and participate.

Happy Birtday to you!! happy birth day to you!!

I’ve got to say that of all the sites I have frequented over the years this is the ONLY one I have continuously enjoyed and the only one I have actually religiously followed for more than a few months.

I used to go to the Quicken site frequently but they changed the format (to a Q&A style) and now I cannot find anything — or a decent way to follow a thread)! The updates here have not destroyed the format — they have enhanced it!

It seems like only a little while ago we were celebrating B’day #1!

Congratulations, Alex!

Happy second birthday and congrats on your first two years. I was a lurker long before the podcast came into being. Great site and keep up that Add-In work!

Happy birthday mediasmartserver.net!!!!!!

Great, priceless forum; keep up the good work.

It’s one of two forums that I visit nearly every day. The members are always polite and helpful.

I’ll add my two cents to the previous posts above. This site is the ONLY site I visit consistently because of it intelligence and politeness of the membership and the capabilities Alex has built into the forums and his blog. I have used this site to hold up as an example of BEST PRACTICES TO other “investor related” and other sites is visit occasionally.

MSS.net is definitely one of the best sites on the internet and the only one I visit EVERY day.

GREAT JOB, ALEX!

Sincerely,
George Hayles
