Our friend and most verbose forum member George aka “SeaRay33″ has posted a nice deal at NewEgg, where they are offering the MediaSmart Server EX485 plus a 1TB Hitachi drive for $499 along with free shipping. Note that the EX485 includes the stock 750GB drive, so this will get you duplication of your important files right out of the box. The combo deal is available from this link.

Be sure to let us know if you end up jumping on this deal. Thanks for the link, George!

This is a great deal on an already good product. It was enough to get me to buy one!

So is this a better value than the EX487? Does the EX487 offer different features then the EX485 besides the extra included 750G hard drive?

I’m looking forward to setting this up for my family. I have 5 children, including two teenagers, so we have 4 laptops, 2 desktops, 1 Media Center PC, 3 Zunes, 1 iPhone, 1 Wii, 1 DSi, and my Mom’s occasional laptop that I manage. I’m hoping a central server simplifies my backup and media issues!

Great, glad this was helpful and welcome to the site, I hope you’ll join the forums and participate.

I would say this is definitely a better value than the EX487, as it comes with an additional 750GB drive and this deal includes a 1TB drive. There are no functional differences between the EX485 and EX487 other than the included drives. I also do think this will help simplify your home backup and media concerns, for many people this is their first introduction to the concept of keeping backups in the home and WHS makes it so easy.

CORRECTION: The 1TB deal is off, but they have replaced it with a 750gb offer. Still a great offer.
