Forum member Jacmay recently shared his new modification with us, which is a stainless steel base mounted to the bottom of the MediaSmart Server and includes several debug port connectors. The connectors work with the debug cables provided by forum member cakalapati. Jacmay describes wanting to avoid cutting any holes in the case of his server or potentially risky cable routing, as most other users have done that wanted to permanently mount their debug cables. Here’s more background info from Jacmay on the modification.
I started thinking of that when I read the post “what’s this mobo header for”
And all the holes the guy’s were making in there mss.
I was afraid to open the mss and see what I can do so there would be no holes.
It stayed in the back of my head for a long time, always thinking of it.
4 weeks ago I decided to take the plunge and to see what I can do or make so that I don’t have to drill a hole in my mss.
I had to empty the mss even removing the bottom base plate of the mss.
That is when I saw the square hole that the cables could go through and then I started to build some models in cardboards to see if it could work.
Then I made the first one in wood, to see how it looks.
The second one was made in metal.
I then went to a small machine shop to get stainless steel, made one so you guys can see it better. I like the style. (My welding is not perfect)
My second one was painted black. The pictures are not good.
My mss was in pieces for 4 weeks.
Read all the details and see a lot more pictures in the forum thread. Thanks to Jacmay for sharing his modification with us, we’ve seen some great mods come out of the forum community here.

“potentially risky cable routing”
Ouch…
I knew this would get construed the wrong way.
I only meant that it seems not unlikely that someone attempting to mimic your excellent cable routing skills would mess up and slice their new VGA cable in half on the sheet metal of the case.
I found your post on Google. You raised some fantastic points here. Well put.
